Hi, Members of the San Antonio Women’s Hall of Fame!
Our year is almost over for serving you, the members, of our Hall of Fame. We have enjoyed working for you to meet the expectations set at the beginning of our year last July. Here are some of our accomplishments:
- Completed the IRS tax exempt status for entire organization
- Set high budgetary goals
- Involved more members through committees
- Provided a Holiday Social for members
- Stabilized budgets in operations and the Scholarship Trust
- Developed new website: SAWOMENSHALLOFFAME.ORG
- Utilized high tech for communications thereby saving dollars spent on mailings
We awarded 15 scholarships at $1000 each to deserving girls in San Antonio. These bright young women want to be various kinds of physicians, different types of engineers, and teachers. Below is a message from one of our previous scholarship recipients that explains how important it is for us to award many scholarships each year:
Good Afternoon Dr. Katz,
My name is Eunice Fernandez. I am one of the 2004 High School San
Antonio Women's celebration and Hall of Fame scholarship recipients.
I am writing today because I felt the need to express my gratitude
once again. The years following graduation were periods of transition
and I cannot help but feel that without the love and care from
organizations such as yours, I would not be where I am today.
I graduated from St. Mary's University in 2008 with a Bachelor's in
Political Science. I went on to work in the legal field for a year
while I prepared for the entrance exam into law school. I have since
been accepted into Texas Southern University Thurgood Marshall School
of Law and am in my second year of law school. I am also working with
my school's Earl Carl Institute Center for Legal and Social Policy. I
am head of a special project which, if successful, will be the first
implementation of a Street Law course for high school students. We
believe that by teaching the youth law as a life skill from an early
age, they will be better prepared for the transition into society post
high school graduation. I am also working towards bringing a fun,
recreational website to Texas called www.lawforkids.org.
My dreams have never been brighter; my ambition never stronger, and my
dedication never this personal. I would like to send my appreciation
once again for such a wonderful gift of opportunity and hope that I
may remain in communication as I complete my journey towards my
career.
Warmest Regards,
--
